If you’re looking for both nature and architectural senior pictures that are different from the average high schooler, check out Faust Park. With a mix of woods, a lake with a path through grasses, log cabins, and historic buildings, you’ll have a variety of backgrounds and looks in one, small park. You can even make your session extra special by taking a stroll through the Butterfly House, surrounding yourself with beautiful butterflies, or hoping up on the carousel and posing with the horses.
Check out my list of the top senior picture locations in St. Louis, MO to get inspired by more locations to have your senior pictures taken.
The Best Part About Faust Park
One of Faust Park’s best-known features is the Butterfly House. With butterflies flying all around in a bubble filled with trees, flowers, and bushes your photos will be filled with nature and gentle creatures. If you’re lucky enough, the butterflies will land on you and make for extra special portraits.
Head outside the Butterfly house for photos of you walking down the flower and grass filled pathway as you head over to the lake. With trees and tall grasses around the outside of the lake, you’ll have a variety of options for photos with the lake in the background. To add to it, this is the perfect angle for capturing the stunning, glass building that’s the Butterfly House behind you as well.
Just across the lawn stands a small village of log cabins and historic buildings that set against the woods. These buildings are perfect for standing in front of, leaning against, sitting on the steps, and holding onto fences. The wooded background gives your portraits more of a country vibe instead of feeling like you’re in the middle of a city as well.
Towards the back of the park is a pathway through the forest, giving you the perfect whimsical scene as you stroll through the woods or to step into the tall grasses to create a more earthy and adventurous look to your photos.
What to Expect Each Season
Spring
With the number of trees growing in Faust Park, you’ll find plenty of green leaves popping up on trees, giving Faust Park more color. The nature walk will also be blooming with spring wildflowers that are perfect for standing and sitting amongst. Along the lake you’ll also find those spring flowers blooming, giving you more variety for backgrounds with the tall grasses, lake, and Butterfly House.
Summer
Flowers can be found blooming in and around the historic village in small gardens. These flowers are perfect for standing behind, sitting in front of, or even having partially in the background while you lean against a nearby building, giving you both the liveliness of flowers but also an architectural vibe.
Fall
Faust Park is filled with trees that turn vibrant reds and oranges during the fall. You won’t fall short of fall colors here. Trees surround the area, so everywhere you go, whether it’s in the historic village, down the trail, or by the Butterfly House, you’ll find plenty of changing leaves on the trees and laying on the ground.
Winter
With the cabins and historic village, Faust Park offers plenty of scenery during the winter. You won’t have to worry about your background being full of brown trees. The buildings offer multiple, vibrant colors to brighten up your photos being painted in yellows, reds, whites, and greens.

Lexi wanted something different for her location than the average senior for her senior pictures. She requested that we take her photos with water. She didn’t have anything specific in mind, just water, and the best place for a variety of different water backgrounds is Forest Park. Between the creeks, lakes, and even a waterfall, Lexi had plenty of options for backgrounds for her senior pictures.
She was able to get a mix of nature and water in all her senior pictures. While water was in just about every photo we took, she was able to stand in the tall grasses, on a white suspension bridge, lean on trees, stand on rocks, and sit on the rocks and kick her feet in the water. This helped give her such a variety of look to her photos, while keeping with her water theme.
We even caught such a beautiful, orange glow in the trees from the sunset that enhanced her photos that much more. On top of it, Lexi killed it with her facial expressions. She was amazing at such a soft smile, which gave her a beautiful, model look. To see how adorable her photos turned out, scroll down!

Dylan’s session started off at Union Station so we could capture his love for trains. We safely explored the train cars and tracks, taking senior pictures on the cars, next to them, and on the tracks. With it being a station, we also were able to incorporate that train station feel to some of his images as well. We also headed over to Forest Park for a few photos with his families Dodge Challenger and to capture the fall colors, by The Muny, right before peak. He wore the perfect outfit - a blue shirt with jeans and a black, leather jacket. This complimented the trains so well as they have a blue cast to them, so all the cool colors went together so well. Plus, the leather jacket made him look like a cool guy standing with the trains and the Challenger.
While Dylan may not have been the most excited to have his senior pictures taken, it was heartwarming to know he was doing it for his mom. He understood how much she would appreciate them, and his love for his mom showed during the session. In the end, he even asked for a photo with the moon. We spotted it over a bridge, and he asked if he could stand on the bridge with the moon in the background for his picture. You can see that image and all the other cool images we took by scrolling down!

Olivia's senior session consisted of multiple locations at Forest Park. We started are evening at the Victorian Bridge where we were surprised by a rogue chicken playing in the woods. This started off our session with a silly but memorable moment. While at the Victorian Bridge we caught the fall colors and beautiful sun shining on them in a variety of settings with her sitting on the bridge, standing in the tall grasses, and leaning on a nearby wooden bridge.
From there we headed to another creek where Olivia had lots of rocks to stand and sit on. She even sat on a rock and looked in at her beautiful reflection. Keeping with the water theme, we went to the waterfall for some stunning photos of her walking towards the camera with the waterfall in the background. We even scored a few wildflowers along the pathway for some adorable photos. And to top it off, her blue shirt and white skirt fit the atmosphere of the waterfall just perfect. With the cool tones of the shade and waterfall, her outfit matched everything just perfect.
As we finished out Olivia’s session, we captured the golden hour at the lake basin. The sunset was so beautiful in the background of all her images by the creek, standing on the bridge, and even standing around the tall grasses. With the sun beaming on the trees, it really brought out those fall colors she was looking for too. To see how stunning Olivia looked in her senior photos, scroll down!

Emily wanted to go somewhere a bit different for her senior pictures. Having a dad who helped create The Foundry downtown, Emily spent a lot of time there growing up. This made it special to her. We took pictures around the locations her parents specifically remember, like outside the food court, along a stone wall, and inside by some beams. After we finished at The Foundry, we headed over to Forest Park for the main portion of her session. Forest Park was full of fall colors at The Muny, and the Jewel still had plenty of blooming flowers.
Emily also wanted to sport Mizzou in a t-shirt and holding a sign. She plans to go there for college, so it was the perfect addition to her session. She even brought along her boyfriend for a few, super cute photos of the two of them. Emily covered a lot of different outfits and backgrounds having both industrial and nature vibes. Scroll down to see how great they look and how adorable her and her boyfriend are!
