The Best Part About Your High School

Maybe you had a lot of memories going to all the football games and want some portraits in the grandstands or down on the field. Both are great spots to take senior pictures at your high school. You can sit in the bleachers with your team's name in the background or get a shot of you standing or sitting on your school’s mascot in the center of the football field.

Standing or sitting by your school sign is another perfect spot at your high school to have portraits taken. If you have a statue outside your school that represents it or means a lot to you, that’s also a perfect spot. If your school sign is up on the building, you can always lean up against the wall or stand far back from it and have it in the background of your portraits.

You can even take some portraits just around the building. Lean against the wall, sit in the grass, walk through the parking lot, or sit in your parking spot. There may even be something unique to your school that most others don’t have that you could consider incorporating as well.

If you love the inside of your school or want to remember walking down the hall’s you can always take some inside portraits as well. Lean up against the lockers or wear your cap and gown and jump in the air in the hall. Walk down the hall with a peace sign in the air to say, “peace out high school.”

What to Expect Each Season

Spring

If you have beautiful flowers or trees planted around your school, this is a great time to take senior portraits there. They’ll finally be blooming, and your school will look much more lively with all the greens from the trees and grass, and any colorful flowers planted will pop out.

Summer

There may not be as many activities going on around your school at this time of year, so there may not be as many people around when you’re down on the field or around the building. Everything will fully be in bloom so there will be plenty of beautiful colors from all the plants. If you have a small pond outside of your school, then you won’t have to worry about it being frozen and can use that as another spot for portraits.

Fall

The trees will be turning orange, red, and yellow which would give your senior pictures beautiful color, especially if you don’t have many flowers around during the spring. The football field may be busier though with football in season and them needing to practice. The parking lot may be busier as well.

Winter

There’s not really any plants blooming during the winter, so you probably don’t have many leaves on trees or green grass. Unless you want to take senior pictures in the snow at your school, there’s probably not much scenery at this time of year. This is, however, a good time to take indoor portraits since you won’t have to worry about scenery.

Drumline means a lot to Hannah, and that’s exactly why she wanted to take some of her senior pictures on the football field at her high school. She spent a lot of time in marching band, so what better way to remember where she spent most of her time in high school than in her uniform on the field. We also traveled to a park in her hometown to take some beautiful portraits of her as well. Scroll down to see all the great images we captured!

If you’re looking for a city vibe, without having to go to downtown St. Louis, then St. Charles is the perfect location for you. With brick streets and sidewalks, historic buildings, a cabin, inoperable train tracks, and multiple little parks, this town can easily accommodate a two-hour shoot.

The Best Part About St. Charles

As you walk down the streets of St. Charles, you’ll find numerous locations to stop and pose at. With a variety of storefronts and decorations, you’re bound to take unique senior portraits that nobody else has, even if they also went to St. Charles. You can even stop at some of the stores to grab an ice cream or coffee to use as a prop in your portraits.

Along the sidewalks of St. Charles, you’ll find fences, outdoor seating, light posts, flowers, decorative barrels, and many more decorations to pose with. The small parks even offer beautiful trees to lean on, flowers for gorgeous backgrounds, and grass to sit on. Fences are great for leaning on and sitting next to, while light posts are perfect for leaning against and taking a lovely portrait of you with all the buildings behind you. Windowsills sit low enough on some buildings that you can even lean on them. There’s also plenty of steps around the area to sit on as well.

Not to far down the street sits a cabin right on the opposite side of Main St. This is great incase you want mainly a city look, but a few country rustic portraits as well. There’s a fence around the cabin that’s great for leaning or putting your hand on. There’s also a big tree nearby that makes it easy for you to lean against and get the cabin in your background.

If you’re looking for some railroad portraits, St. Charles offers a safe, non-operable train track that’s right on the opposite side of Main St. It’s located in Frontier Park. This makes taking railroad portraits safe, easy, and you won’t have to rush.

What to Expect Each Season

Spring

Some of the local shops have flowers planted outside of their businesses, trees are blossoming, and flowers grow in the small parks. If you’re looking for both an urban look with a touch of flowers, you’ll be sure to find some around the area.

Summer

Summer is the perfect time to grab an ice cream from the local ice cream shops, or to just take a stroll down the streets of St. Charles. The warmer days do bring more people out to visit the town, especially on weekends. Nevertheless, you will be able to find plenty of beautiful spots to take senior pictures where there aren’t a lot of people.

Fall

During fall, some of the local shops like to decorate with pumpkins and gourds. There are also lots of trees around the area, so you’ll be able to incorporate plenty of fall colors into your portraits.

Winter

With all the buildings in St. Charles, it’s easy to take great portraits without many trees or grass in your pictures. This makes St. Charles a perfect location for winter portraits, since you won’t have to worry about everything looking dead.

While there was snow on the ground, and Emily was off of school, we decided to do an impromptu snow senior session. We headed over to Suson Park to take advantage of the open fields filled with snow and capture the frozen lake in the background. Emily also fell in love with the horses and donkeys while we were there, so we took a few beautiful pictures of her as she pet and posed with them. Check out all the beautiful, snowy images below!
