Why You Should Take Fall Senior Pictures in St. Louis
Golden Leaves, Cozy Layers, and the Perfect Timeline for Graduation.
Fall is the most popular time of year for senior pictures, and for good reason. Between the vibrant canopy of colors and the crisp leaves underfoot, the portrait opportunities are endless. Choosing autumn also puts you on a perfect timeline; you’ll have your images back in plenty of time to enjoy them over the holidays and start designing your graduation announcements.
The Magic of Autumn Colors
St. Louis is famous for its autumn hues. Rich yellows, deep reds, and bright oranges fill the trees, offering a stunning alternative to the greenery of spring and summer. Large local parks are a favorite for these sessions because they offer a huge variety of trees that turn at different times, giving us a multi-colored backdrop.
Timing the Peak
In the St. Louis area, fall colors usually peak around late October and can often stretch into early November. This window is ideal because it often falls right as fall sports are wrapping up and before the holiday rush begins. If you want that "peak" look, I recommend booking early. To make those fall leaves pop even more, I love to shoot during Golden Hour to really enhance those warm colors. You can learn more about how I use this timing for my sessions in my planning guide.
Perfectly Crisp Temperatures
One of the best things about fall in the Midwest is the weather. You won’t have to worry about the sweltering summer heat or the biting winter wind. These cooler temperatures mean you’ll stay comfortable and fresh throughout our entire session.
Leaves Everywhere
The beauty of fall isn't just in the trees, it’s on the ground, too. A thick layer of red and orange leaves gives us fun opportunities to sit for portraits or even capture some candid shots of you throwing leaves in the air.
Cozy Fall Fashion
This is the season for textures and layers. It’s the perfect time to pair leggings with dresses, add a cozy cardigan, or rock a classic sweater. You can even wear ripped jeans without freezing. For a "natural and authentic" fall look, I recommend colors like burnt orange, mustard yellow, burgundy, or even a classic jean jacket. Looking for more ways to layer?
