The Lafayette Park Experience

Sitting on 30 acres in the heart of the city, Lafayette Park is a location that truly offers everything. From reflective ponds and dense woods to historic brick architecture and ornate ironwork, the park provides a sophisticated backdrop that feels both timeless and diverse. The surrounding historic homes add an extra layer of "stately" charm to the perimeter, making it easy to fill a full two-hour session without ever leaving the grounds.

The Best Part About Lafayette Park

The park is enclosed by an iconic wrought-iron fence and grand gates, which serve as elegant anchors for leaning or standing portraits while capturing the neighborhood’s historic architecture in the background.

On-site architecture includes two distinct brick structures. One is nestled among a lush garden of seasonal flowers and oversized foliage, offering a classic doorway and steps for a refined garden look. The second, a central brick building with arched windows and grand stone steps, is perfect for more creative shots—such as utilizing the steps for a seated perspective or incorporating graduation-year props against the timeless masonry.

The park’s two ponds offer completely different vibes. One features a decorative perimeter fence and stone steps leading to the water, while the other is surrounded by dense shrubbery and benches for a more secluded, natural feel. Connecting these areas is a historic bridge; seniors can pose on the bridge for a high-vantage tree-line view or underneath the structure for a more moody, architectural frame.

Additional highlights include a floral-surrounded gazebo and a winding stone pathway. The pathway area is particularly popular for its mix of ornamental trees, flowers, and tall grasses. The stone steps and benches tucked along this trail offer a "hidden garden" aesthetic that feels quiet and private despite the park’s central location.

What to Expect Each Season

  • The stone pathway area reaches its peak in the spring, with a wide variety of flowers in full bloom. As the trees and lawns regain their color, the park offers a fresh, vibrant atmosphere that isn’t yet too warm for more layered outfits.

  • Lafayette Park is exceptionally well-shaded, making it a top choice for summer sessions. The mature canopy protects against the direct sun, and the gardens transition to lush, late-summer blooms and deep green foliage.

  • Given the density of mature trees, the park is a premier spot for autumn color. The brick buildings and iron fences provide a classic contrast to the oranges and reds of the falling leaves, which carpet the grass and pathways.

  • This location is perfect for snowy sessions. The architectural lines of the bridge and brick buildings stand out beautifully against a white landscape, creating a "winter wonderland" feel that is both urban and romantic.
