Beyond the Outfits: Personalizing Your Session with the Things You Love
Besides your favorite outfits and accessories, you might be wondering what else you can bring along to your senior pictures. If you’re feeling stuck, I’ve created this list of 10 ideas to get your creativity flowing. Need some more inspiration? Check out my portfolio to see more seniors in action with meaningful and unique items they used during their sessions.
#1: Pets
We all love our pets, so why not include them? They are part of the family. Whether they are wild and crazy or laid back and relaxed, you’ll love having a portrait that captures their personality alongside yours.
#2: Sports Equipment
If you’re involved in a sport, including your gear is a must. From footballs and tennis rackets to bowling balls and rollerblades, your equipment is the perfect addition to show off your dedication.
#3: Artwork
Are you an artist? Show off your favorite pieces! You can bring along your finished work or the tools of your trade, paintbrushes, easels, tubes of paint, or sketchbooks.
#4: Unique Furniture
Sometimes a fun chair or a unique piece of furniture sitting around your house can be the perfect prop. They are great for changing up poses or creating a high-fashion seating arrangement in an unexpected location, like a field of tall grass.
#5: Musical Instruments
For the musicians and band students, your instrument is a perfect prop. It’s a great way to show your love for music and remember the exact guitar or brass you played during your high school years.
#6: Personal Signs
Whether it’s a sports sign, a chalkboard with your graduation year, or a custom "Class of" prop, signs add a clear, fun message to your portraits.
#7: Awards
You’ve worked hard for those accomplishments! Whether it’s a medal for an outstanding student award, a trophy from a competition, or even a book you’ve written, make sure to show off those achievements.
#8: Your Car
Whether it’s a sleek sports car or just your very first "point A to point B" vehicle, cars are a fun, iconic addition to any senior session and a great way to remember your first taste of freedom.
#9: Hobbies and Collections
Whatever you love to do, find a way to bring it along. Skateboards, cameras, stacks of your favorite books, gaming controllers, or even a specific collection you've curated, if it means something to you, it belongs in your pictures.
#10: Just for Fun
The list is endless. Don't be afraid to bring "extra" items just in case. Fun objects like glitter, smoke bombs, vintage suitcases, or sparklers can add a creative spark to your session. It’s always better to have it and not use it than to wish you’d brought it along!
